Windsor Place staff focuses on the quality of life of each resident who enters Windsor Place by being attentive to their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well being.  Residents have the security of licensed nurses and certified staff on duty 24 hours a day.  In order to maintain the highest quality nursing standards, we provide extensive continuing education to our staff to stay current on new trends, techniques and technologies.

The Bathing Experience:  Our bathing areas have been transformed into a spa-like environment.  All bathing areas offer a choice of shower or whirlpool bathing; the atmosphere is enhanced with aromatic scents of body lotion, shampoos and body splashes plus soothing music; the ambience is fully intended to provide both privacy and individual pampering.  Residents can also choose the bathing alternatives of a soothing, warm towel bath in bed or a traditional bedside spitz bath.  Residents have the control of determining what time of day they prefer their baths.

The Dining Experience:  There are distinct neighborhoods on the Windsor campuses, each with their own specially designed dining areas.  The buffet style food service gives the dining rooms the feel of a sidewalk café in the center of our community.  Residents line the hall in anticipation of each meal (despite the fact that the meal service times have been expanded to enhance choice); chatting fills the air while each person makes individual choices at the buffet line and independently chooses where they will sit today.  At Windsor Place, menus are  developed with resident input through the monthly food committees.

Eden Alternative Process:  In accordance with the philosophy of the Eden Alternative process, the surroundings are as much like home as possible.  The first Eden principle understands that loneliness, helplessness and boredom account for the bulk of suffering among our frail elders.  Lounges and dining areas are conducive for visiting and socializing. The beauty shop is open five days a week allowing easy access.  Windsor Place de-emphasizes the programmed activities by creating an environment with spontaneity and variety.  We encourage resident choice at every turn whether it is the time of rising in the morning, retiring at night, meal selections at the buffet line, what type of bath (ex: shower, whirlpool, in the room) what time of day (or evening) the bath is given and the list goes on.

Residents are involved in horticulture projects sponsored by the local college…planting seedlings; participating in the weekly watering brigade; and enhancing their home with plants.  Pets are welcomed residents in our home including dogs, cats, stocked aquariums and birds.  The general courtyard is a natural gathering place furnished with patio furniture, heated greenhouse, and fishpond.  It is often the site of a friendly, but competitive game of horseshoes or staff and resident cookout.

Room configurations include both private and semi-private.  Residents and their families are encouraged to bring a favorite chair, pictures, furniture, or accent pieces to create individualized, comfortable surroundings.  Much attention is given to roommate compatibility.

Medicare Services

Windsor Place is a certified Medicare Skilled Nursing Facility with a compliment of licensed therapists and a comprehensive restorative staff.  The rehabilitation program successfully returns over thirty percent of people admitted to our facility to their own homes.  Therapists are licensed by the State of Kansas and provide physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT) and speech-language pathology (ST).

The entire Medicare team of licensed nurses, social service staff and therapists meet weekly to coordinate the resident’s care needs in collaboration with the primary physician.  Care plans, progress reports and treatment protocol are discussed and shared by all disciplines to best serve the resident receiving these services.

Physical Therapy:  The physical therapy program provides intervention strategies to improve strength, mobility, balance, coordination, endurance and/or pain management.  Therapists instruct residents in skilled techniques to improve their ability to walk, climb stairs, and increase physical stamina.  This training may include the use of adaptive devices and equipment.

Occupational Therapy:  The goal of the occupational therapy program is to assist residents in achieving greater self reliance in activities of daily living, which includes dressing, personal grooming and eating.  Occupational therapists are specialists in recommending adaptive equipment and other environmental changes to help the resident function safely.

Speech Therapy:  The primary focus for the speech-language pathologist is to return the resident to the highest potential of communication for his or her environment.  Treatment strategies involve teaching compensatory techniques to improve swallowing, speaking, listening, reading and writing comprehension, language interpretation and expressive skills.

Restorative Aides:  In addition to licensed therapists, Windsor also has a comprehensive restorative program.  A nurse serves as supervisor to a team of three certified restorative aides.  Specific areas of focus include ambulation programs, range of motion schedules, communication measures, restorative dining/assistive feeding devices, skin breakdown prevention and assist with ADL’s (activities of daily living).  A Bladder Scan device assists the restorative department in assessing incontinence problems and allows the staff to design an incontinence management program specific to the area of functional need.

Independence Through Functionality:  Our physical therapy gym is equipped with pieces of Reiser equipment.  "Independence Through Functionality" is our strength-building program designed especially for the older adult.  Research studies indicate the following outcomes for participants:  increased muscle strength, enhanced joint flexibility, improved body composition, improved ability to walk longer distances without tiring, reduced occurrence of falls, increased cardiovascular endurance, improved blood pressure and decreased pain/discomfort caused by arthritis.  Our program offers and individualized exercise program that considers the normal effects of aging under the supervision of trained personnel.

Hospice Program:  Windsor provides private suites for the care of terminally ill residents.  A quiet place with provisions for family privacy helps during this most difficult time.  Our staff, in collaboration with our Hospice partner, is committed to meeting these special needs.
